Gary Coleman

So I don't have many met-someone-famous stories, and most all of them involve BYU players or former players.

In fact, the only one I can think of is Gary Coleman. One of his brushes with the law occurred while I was clerking for the Provo City Attorney's Office. I ran into Mr. Coleman when he came in to talk to the city prosecutor. (Who, incidentally is a former BYU basketball player and very tall. That was a funny image...anyway....)

I passed him in the hallway and we made eye contact, and he gave me a sort of I-dare-you-to acknowledge-that-I'm-somebody-famous which was decidedly unfriendly, and so I made a concerted effort not to do a double take or exclaim.

Anyway, that's it. Not a very interesting story, but in light of his recent passing, I have been thinking about it lately. This is obviously conjecture on my part, but I think he was very tired of all the attention. Hence the move to Utah. I really empathize with that. I imagine it got so tired for him to always be recognized and associated with Diff'rent Strokes and watchu talkin' 'bout, etc.

My point? Not sure I have one. But rest in peace, Gary Coleman, we (meaning I) hardly new ye. Hopefully where ever you are now you can get some peace and quiet.

That's funny. Gary Coleman lived in the town I work in. Ok...and for the sandwich thing...isn't it SCARY how many calories stuff has? I'm convinced that the biggest reason I've been able to lose 25 lbs is simply by being aware of how many calories I was consuming pre weight loss. It stinks though at times. Why does everything so yummy have to be so bad for you?

Also...give the spinning toothbrush a try. Best $4.85 we've ever spent. Toothbrushing was a nightmare before and now he can't get enough. When is Rebecca due again?

That's what has worked for me, too, just counting the calories and eating less. I find that you naturally gravitate to things that are better for you when you cap your calories, but I am totally with you.

If we lived in a word where melted cheese and candy made you more fit I would be in excellent condition. Doh!

We bought a toothbrush today, it will be interesting to see if he likes it.

Due date is September 25th, BYU v. Nevada. ;-)

I remember that episode. Everything always comes back to the fourth district court. I wonder if he secretly wanted you to make a big deal of him but wanted to appear like he didn't...

Personally, I think you should have asked for his autograph.

BTW - I got all excited because we're going to Oregon in a few weeks and I thought that we'd be going through Winnemucca and could stop and see you guys, but we're going more Northern in Oregon and so will be going through Idaho!! Are you guys coming to visit any time soon?

Um...looks like the next will probably be the first week of September. We may be there for Thanksgiving, too.
