Fingernail. Eyeball. Ouch.

A crazy thing happened last week. On Friday night, I was reading a book whilst James drank his milk before bed. Meanwhile, Rebecca was clipping his fingernails when, zing, a fingernail clipping flew into James's left eye.

He went into a panic, rubbing his eye and crying, etc, etc. Tons of tearing, water streaming out of his eye. Finally we forced it open and searched for the clipping to no avail. After a few minutes he calmed down and didn't seem to be in any distress. We could not see a clipping anywhere in his eye. And then he went to sleep.

At about 9:15 on Saturday morning, after a good hour and a half of running around and acting normal, James comes up to me and starts crying again and furiously rubbing his eye. This goes on for a long time, and then he finally quits. At that point, I notice a tiny white point sticking out of his left eye.

I plucked it out, and sure enough, it was the fingernail clipping. All I can figure is it must have rolled into the back of his eye where he couldn't feel it. He slept just fine that night. He seems otherwise undamaged.

The things you deal with having children....or a child, I guess. It will be children soon enough.

Wow! Glad it came out ok and didn't hurt his eye seriously. One time Mike was clipping his toenails and one flew into his eye. I still make fun of him for it.

That's a good one.

Oh dear, that kind of made my stomach turn. I've had contact lenses get stuck up under my eyelid, and it made me feel like I was going to have a panic attack. I'm glad you found it and James is okay!

of all the dangers associated with fingernail clipping...having it fly into your eye is not one that I have considered yet. Now I know!
