By my count, that's 47 books read this past year.  That's an improvement of 5 over last year, so I am relatively pleased with that.  My football season/end of year dropoff, though, seems worse than usual and I'm not too thrilled with that.  The fact that I spent many hours working on the new room was a definite contributor there, no doubt, along with the denser historical biographies, too.

In any event, I have started reading the discworld novels by Terry Pratchett.  I like them pretty well, but I don't think I'm as huge a fan as others.  I have been interested enough that I think I will finish the entire series.

Noteworthy, too, is that I finished my complete works of Shakespeare.  Going forward, I intend on reading a couple of those every year.  Not sure I'll again read the whole thing cover to cover.

To substitute for that, I am now alternating between historical biographies of Presidents of the United States and Presidents of the Church.  So far that has been extraordinarily fulfilling and I am really enjoying it.  Much denser reading, though, so once I finish with Church Presidents I will make every third book a U.S. President biography.  Three kids now; what are the chances I can best 47 in 2013?  Very low, I imagine.

One side note on my diversions from the Pratchett/Bio program.  I read The Passage at my brother Dan's suggestion, and was for a while afraid to turn out the lights.  :-)  Great book, though, I will definitely have to get to the sequel sometime this year.  Unbroken was also outstanding and worth mentioning on its own right.  What an incredible story.  If you haven't read it yet, I would recommend it.

And once again I pay homage to Kiersten, who is the most prolific reader I know.

Not knowing Keirsten... how many books did she read this year?

I'm glad you're working your way through Terry Pratchett! I worked a really boring job after college, and listening to his audiobooks was a joy. And you may have already started to notice, but his later Discworld books seem to become less silly and more satirical.

Counting all the kiddo books, I checked out about 80 books from the library last year. And I reread a handful of books I already own. But I don't think any of my reading was as heavy as your epic Shakespeare. Wow.

Kiersten read 98 books last year, by my quick count. She had read more than my annual total by the end of June.

The reading schedule I have for discworld is kind of all over the place, as you've noticed. I do like it, but there are a lot of people I have talked to that adore him, and I don't think I quite get there. Very entertaining, though.

80 is quite a respectable number, even if there are kid books mixed in.

You are so funny. When you are nursing a baby and sitting on the couch ALL DAY LONG you will probably read 98 books, too :)

Very impressed by the Shakespeare. That is a huge accomplishment, and I like the presidential biographies plan. I've read a few that I've really enjoyed, and then I've gotten bogged down in others. I'll be looking forward to your recommendations!
